Alpha Alpha Tau Omega Journey (part 6)

Building an Organization

In June 2019, having received approval to begin “active” programming and to establish a social media presence, the Interest Group launched Instagram and Facebook pages. The Interest Group published its Inaugural Newsletter, “Pearl Ivy Gazette,” on June 1, 2019, subsequent volumes have been published monthly. Financial health of an organization remained a priority for the Interest Group. On July 13, 2019, Middletown, Odessa, and Townsend Pearls of Distinction held a Day Party and Social at Back Creek Golf Club, in Middletown, Delaware.  With more than 350 guests, $7,367.87 was raised, exceeding the fundraising goal.

Although an organization may not become an official member of the NPHC until chartered, the Interest Group recognized the importance of the Divine Nine organizations, our similar singular mission of service and the collaborative part it plays in a well-organized chapter.  The Interest Group sent representatives to NPHC meetings to keep abreast of events and to support the member organizations.  The Interest Group had also initiated conversations with M.O.T. NPHC organizations for future collaborations.

The year of 2020 started with much promise. This was the year that the Interest Group expected to become a Graduate Chapter. Organizationally, members continued to comply with meetings, conferences, summits, workshops, and gatherings. In January 2020 Interest Group members attended the North Atlantic Regional Leadership Summit and supported the Royal Pearls of Sussex Interest Group, now Alpha Alpha Mu Omega Chapter, at their chartering.  On January 10-11, 2020, the Graduate Chapter Orientation Weekend with the Regional Director was held. Soon thereafter, the application for chartering was completed and forwarded as required. On March 11, 2020, the country was stricken by COVID-19, emergency restrictions were put in place and the Boule was canceled. Organizational structuring continued virtually, and the Directorate approved the charter application July 15, 2020. Middletown, Odessa, and Townsend Pearls of Distinction held its 2nd fundraiser, a Winter Groove with more than 200 attendees.

One week after the conclusion of the 90th NARC, the fully organized Middletown, Odessa, and Townsend Pearls of Distinction was informed that on May 16, 2021 that they would become a chartered chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority. Incorporated. Back to AATΩ History (part 1)
